Stream Vision Ballistics App

The Pulsar Stream Vision Ballistic App iis an accurate ballistic calculator that produces a ballistic profile that can then be downloaded to the inbuilt memory of compatible Pulsar thermal riflescopes with an inbuilt laser rangefinder.

The saved ballistic profile links the laser rangefinder to a dynamic point-of-impact indicator on the riflescope’s reticle that displays the correct aiming position. Multiple Ballistic Profiles can be save for different ammunition, which can be selected in the menu.

This system is a game-changer when precision shooting is important. Stream Vision Ballistics currently supports Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF and Pulsar Trail 2 LRF XP50 thermal riflscopes.

Brief sensor and lens choice guide

Matching the right sensor and optics to suit your requirements is an important consideration when purchasing a thermal imaging or night vision optic. The combination of sensor size and lens focal length determines both magnification, field-of-view and image resolution.

In a nutshell

Lens– Assuming the the sensor is the same size, a longer focal length (F) lens will magnify the image more than a shorter F lens. Therefore, a F50mm lens has a higher magnification than a F35mm lens. A higher magnification also means that the device has a narrower field-of-view.

Sensor– A sensor with a larger physical size will produce an image with a lower magnification and a wider field-of-view than a smaller sensor. Sensors with higher number of pixels have better image quality when zoomed into a higher magnification and have a wider field-of-view at base magnification.

Pixel size– Expressed in micrometres or microns (µm), this is the diagonal size of the pixel. A 17µm pixel is larger than a 12µm pixel. A larger pixel will capture more radiated heat than a smaller pixel, making the sensor more sensitive with better rain, fog, and foliage penetration. The 12µm pixel can render a finer detailed image because the pixels are smaller and packed closer together, but the sensor is less sensitive.

If you need to see or shoot at long distance, 12µm sensor and a longer focal length lens is a good option. If you are bush stalking, in areas with a lot of foliage, a 17µm sensor and a shorter focal length lens is better.

This is a generalisation, other factors should also be taken into account. Follow the this link for more information.
